If your log home is not on at least a 12-inch foundation there is a possibility of termites. We recommend speaking with a licensed pest control expert who can also check for Carpenter Ants and Carpenter Bees which can bore holes in logs. They can also hollow out and colonize in the walls.
Renovation projects that can be done inside log homes include adding false rafters, trestle beams, and interior log siding. These kinds of projects are usually low in cost and high in impact, dramatically updating the home and giving it an entirely new feel.
If you’re ready to take your “starter” log cabin to the next level, adding rooms will increase your enjoyment as well as the value of your home.
A lot of older homes in the mountains, especially those built in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, were constructed using T1-11 siding, a wood or wood-based siding product that was popular for its natural, wood-grained look. Today, though, homeowners want real logs. We can turn boring siding into something special using rustic or milled logs. Or by adding log accents on ridges and log corners as well.
Another great way to make your life easier is to add or expand service or storage areas that make your home more functional all around, such as with garages, storage rooms, sheds, or small building to house your ATVs, snowmobiles, UTVs, snow-blowers, skis, snowboards, or kids’ bikes and play equipment.
Any of these projects are sure to inject new life into your log home and give it the love and care it deserves. If you like these ideas, check out our website project gallery for more ideas and lots of photos for inspiration
